Course Overview

This intensive one-day continuing education program explores how digital technologies can be strategically integrated into private practice to enhance clinical efficiency, streamline workflows, and improve patient care. Participants will gain a practical understanding of contemporary digital dentistry systems and how they can be leveraged to create predictable, efficient, and profitable treatment workflows.

Through a combination of evidence-based concepts, clinical case examples, and real-world implementation strategies, attendees will learn how digital data is captured, managed, and utilized throughout the restorative process. The course focuses on optimizing the use of intraoral scanners, digital records, and additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies to improve communication, accuracy, and productivity across the dental team. Participants will be provided with 3Shape Trios intraoral scanners, laptops and typodonts for hands-on exercises. 

Another component of this training covers foundational concepts in dental implant surgery and implant restorations, along with hands-on exercises involving implant placement on typodonts. Participants will also receive instruction in digital impression techniques. For the practical training sessions, implant motors, a Straumann surgical kit, and scan bodies for digital impressions will be provided. Participants should expect at least 3 hours of hands-on training for implant placements and digital scans.

Designed for dentists, specialists, hygienists, and dental technicians at all levels of digital experience, this program provides practical protocols and actionable techniques that can be implemented immediately upon returning to practice. Participants will leave with a clear roadmap for incorporating digital workflows that reduce inefficiencies, improve treatment predictability, and support long-term practice growth.

This course is presented and instructed by Dr. Ilser Turkyilmaz, Associate Dean for Digital Innovation, and Professor and Chair, Department of Comprehensive Care, at the School of Dental Medicine, Case Western Reserve University.

Learning Objectives

Ilser Turkyilmaz, DDS, PhD

Dr. Ilser Turkyilmaz earned his dental degree from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, in 1998, followed by a PhD in Prosthodontics from the same institution in 2004. He then pursued an implant prosthodontic fellowship at The Ohio State University from 2007 to 2008. From 2008 to 2014, he served as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he also directed the Dental School Implant Clinic from 2011 to 2014.

Dr. Turkyilmaz is internationally recognized for his expertise in dental implants, digital dentistry, and artificial intelligence. He has authored 142 peer-reviewed scientific articles, four book chapters, and edited three books focused on implant dentistry. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and serves as Associate Editor or Editor for several respected dental journals.

In 2016, Dr. Turkyilmaz earned his DMD from Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine through the Advanced Standing Program. That same year, he joined the faculty at New York University College of Dentistry as a Clinical Associate Professor and was promoted to Clinical Professor in 2020. He was also named the Prosthodontics-DDS Digital Dentistry Coordinator, where he led faculty development, laboratory collaboration, and curricular integration of digital technologies.

Dr. Turkyilmaz has held leadership roles in professional organizations, including serving as President of the IADR Digital Dentistry Research Network and as a member of the AADOCR Constitution Committee. Licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, he also practices part-time in Manhattan. On September 16, 2024, he was appointed as a tenured full professor, Associate Dean for Digital Innovation, and Chair of the Department of Comprehensive Care at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine.
